What does research say about school start times for adolescents? Check out this video from the New York State School Boards Association, that suggests later start time could result in “less absenteeism, less time watching television, more time doing homework, and higher student performance.”

What do you think about school start times for adolescents? Is later better?
The evidence showing the value of starting high schools later than the 7 a.m. hour (which has been the norm in many schools for the past few decades) is overwhelming. The problem is how to get communities to buy into the idea of change. We’re trying to make that happen at http://www.StartSchoolLater.net, a coalition of health professionals, educators, parents, students, and other concerned citizens working to ensure safe, health, and equitable school hours.
Yes, later IS better. Thanks for creating this video. Hopefully, many school boards across the country will begin working to bring this good idea to their own communities to make it a reality. The district next to our school district changed to later and teachers report an improvement school atmosphere throughout the day and greater student participation during class, too.
