Career testing…for KINDERGARTENERS?

According to this article from the Huffington Post, ACT, an independent, not-for-profit organization that developed the ACT college-entrance exam, has developed a new assessment designed to test the academic and behavioral skills of students starting in kindergarten. The test, ”tracks students’ career interests, academic performance and progress toward goals. It’s designed to follow students from kindergarten through high school.”

Here is what Diane Ravitch has to say about the idea.  What do you think?

  1. How can anyone resist commenting on this? During my kindergarten years, my career aspirations shifted daily from Daniel boone to fireman to cowboy to giraffe. What are the testers going to do with results that point kids to careers as zoo animals? At least the absurdity of our world keeps us smiling.

    • TEA, your comment made me crack up, because if you had asked my daughter in kindergarten what she wanted to be when she grew up she would have said, “a dolphin.”
