Friday Rundown: 1.6.12

It’s been a busy first week of 2012!

Late Tuesday, the State Education Department announced it had cut off funding for 10 districts receiving School Improvement Grants because they have not reached adequate agreements on new teacher and principal evaluations.

Of course we can’t forget about Governor Cuomo’s second State of the State address.

Can you believe NCLB is turning 10 on Sunday? Here’s five thoughts about NCLB on its tenth anniversary from Flypaper, from the Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

Here’s an interesting angle on school funding. For next-generation educating, we need next-generation funding: “Simply put: Our current education finance system doesn’t actually fund schools and certainly doesn’t fund students. Rather, it pays for district-wide programs and staff positions.”
