Tom Friedman’s recent NY Times op-ed entitled “How about better parents?” provides interesting confirmation on how important (certain kinds of) parent involvement is on student achievement, across all socioeconomic classes.
Note the research cited in this article on the types of parent involvement shown to impact higher academic achievement: reading to children, monitoring homework, making sure they get to school, rewarding their efforts and talking up the idea of going to college.
